Project Update
I have run into a few issues with content that is available for my project to be able to answer this questions I had hoped to. To begin, I hoped to incorporate the Ground Penetrating Radar survey that indicated enslaved housing, though the problem I have run into is not only the fact that this survey was done in the 1990s but also that the maps the surveyors provided had no real life context to connect the data too. I've included a photo of the type of map that was produced during this survey, this is very disappointing because this information is very important to my project but more importantly to the history of the site.
Given this information I will still try to compare the location of the four known tenant sites to the mansion, I will include historical maps to see which of these homes were mapped throughout the years which will help with understanding of how long these structures were standing. I will include a 1913 soil survey map of Union county, multiple SCDOT maps, a land acquisition map from 1937. I will also include DEM data to take into account the landscape layout and why houses may have been placed where they were. Along with these maps I plan to include artifact densities for these sites which may help to determine if any of these homes could possibly have been an overseers home.
